Go Velo

Background:

Go Velo started in 2009 and is based in Trawden, Colne. Go Velo deliver cycle training in Lancashire for organisations such as Local Authorities, Schools and Small and Medium Enterprises across Lancashire, currently in Lancaster and Heysham, Preston, Rossendale and Pendle. They have over 25 instructors working on a sub contract basis.

Our intervention:

Go Velo was in the process of applying for a large Adult Cycle Training contract for East Lancashire which entailed producing in-depth and specific marketing materials. Go Velo previously had little experience of marketing and promotion and this is where the help was greatly received and massively appreciated.  Kirsti at Go Velo was matched with Lou Booth who is a volunteer mentor from Community & Business Partners (CBP) as part of the Boost Growth Mentoring programme, and her help was invaluable. She was able to put Go Velo in touch with a promotion company who created specialist marketing and promotional material to help Go Velo win the tender.  The meetings with Lou were refreshing and gave Go Velo a chance to develop new ideas and to think in depth about the issues they faced and how to overcome these problems.

Early Impact:

Go Velo successfully won the Lancashire County Council Adult Cycle Training Contract which is to be delivered in the East Lancashire area to local businesses. Go Velo has become very aware of the effect marketing and promotion can have on the company and the effect on the business. Go Velo has become a more confident and driven company. The contract Go Velo has secured through the help of Lou has help create sustainable opportunities for Go Velo instructors, securing long term work until April 2016. A permanent position has been created in the offices of Go Velo to help maintain the high standard of running and excellent company image portrayed through Go Velo and its instructors.

Client quote/testimonial:

The help and support Go Velo has received through Boost and specifically Lou Booth has been excellent, Lou came to every meeting prepared with very good ideas to help drive Go Velo and to support us in the best way she could offer. To support the mentoring Go Velo’s director Kirsti Grayson attended a Skills Assist interactive Procurement workshop with Geoff Yale (another CBP mentor) that covered the tender process and types of documentation and found it invaluable and a great help when putting the tender document together. Go Velo’s operations manager Nicola Hamilton attended the Sell, Sell, Sell Skills Assists workshop with a view to getting the contract which helped dramatically in the promotion and marketing of Go Velo products and services. The high quality service Go Velo received from Lou and the support she was offered was in part what led Go Velo to be successful in gaining the contract -thank you Lou for all you help.
