Community & Business Partners (CBP) are planning to assist East Lancashire homeless people through the launch of a new scheme.

The ‘Not My Bag’ initiative is being launched this week by CBP, who have spent the last 6 months working with Granby Marketing, Edrington-Beam Suntory and one other global brand local employer, to bring the idea to life!

Following the donation of hundreds of unusable fleeces, CBP worked with volunteers at SAMS Energy Zone, Blackburn, to turn the fleeces into bags that could be filled with essentials such as; toothbrush and toothpaste, high calorie snacks and food, drinks, socks, sleeping bag, travel size toiletries, nail clippers, etc.

Edrington-Beam Suntory have also donated a cash lump sum which covers the direct costs associated with the re-working of the bags, added materials and the use of a workshop for the volunteers to work in.  Rope Source of Bolton donated additional materials to make the bags up and more user friendly.

The organisation is now looking for companies who can provide goods or sponsorship so that the bags can be filled before being distributed to homeless people and others struggling to make ends meet, in the area.

Amanda Meachin. Chief Executive of Community & Business Partners said “We hope this scheme will help the hundreds of people who are homeless or struggling by providing some food and essentials while they are without a permanent home. I’m appealing for companies across the region to do their bit by donating surplus stock, unwanted goods or stock directly from their shelves to help us! We’re also keen to receive donations; 100% of which will go towards purchasing items to go in the bag.”

Joycelyn Neve, Managing Director of the Seafood Pub Company is the latest local business leader to pledge support for the campaign. Seafood Pub Company have pubs across East Lancashire such as the Oyster & Otter Blackburn, Forest at Fence and the Alma Inn at Laneshawbridge, Colne.
